Post Civil War California State Seal Staff Officer Cuff Button

This is a great looking 3-piece design staff officer cuff button that was made after the Civil War. his one has the state seal of the great state of California on the face with "EUREKA" meaning "I have found it" in Greek across the top. The California state seal shows the Goddess Minerva who symbolizes the quick movement to California statehood. California became a state without the usual time spent as a territory. It also shows the bear in the lower right which had been on the short lived California Republic flag. The sheaf of wheat and the grape are meant to represent California agricultural. On the left of the button it has the miner and sailing ships to represent the mining and commerce of California. It has a superb amount of the original gold remaining in just the right places to make the designs stand out. We know that it was made after the Civil War because of the style of back on the reverse of the button. This style wasn't used until after the Civil War had ended. Since it is made after the Civil War it is a lot more affordable.
