This is an authentic piece of colonial currency from the 1700's. These early U.S. currency pieces from the colonies that would make up our states are a true piece of history. This one was issued the South Carolina colony. It is clearly dated from December 23rd 1776. This one was worth the amount of Three "Spanish milled" dollars. Yes that's right at that time currency was still figured in English or Spanish values. The seal depicts a boat at sea named the Actaeon that is on fire with the Latin motto: ".THE ACTAEON.IRAM.PRUDENTIA.VINCIT," which means, "The Actaeon; Prudence conquers anger." On the back of the note it has that it was printed in Charlestown (Charleston). It also has the amount of value and the printer's name. The note was printed by Peter Timothy. Notice how it reads boldly "Death to Counterfeit". The note measures approximately 2-7/8ths inches by 4-1/2 inches in overall size and is in very attractive displaying circulated condition. It comes in an acid free holder for display and preservation. This is a nice authentic early piece of paper money from a colony of the soon to be United States.
