This is a nice displaying original pre-Civil War piece of
currency from the state of South Carolina. It is an original 1858 dated $20 note
from the State Bank of the State of South Carolina. It is hand signed and numbered as
it should be with this style of note. In the center of the right hand side of
the note has the hand written date of issuance of July 1st 1858.
The scene in the center shows a beautiful goddesses in the center of the note. On the sides of the note it has the bust of George Washington (a Southerner) and the other side has Benjamin Franklin. It has the printed location of issuance of "CHARLESTON” just below
and the amount of the pale red ink overprint
"TWENTY” on the face of the note. This was added to help prevent
counterfeiting of the note. The overall size of this note is 7 inches by
2-7/8ths inches. This note is in attractive circulated condition. It comes in
an acid free holder for preservation and display.
