This is a rare version of Civil War note from the State of
North Carolina. This is the $10 note that is listed as CR#83 in the Southern
currency book by Hugh Shull. On the side it has "10" with the Roman numeral in the
corners. The center of the note has the image of the steam train moving down
the line with the steam rising out of the engine. This one has the printed issue date of January 1st 1865 in the lower right of the note. The overall size of the note measures 7-1/2 inches by 3-1/8ths
inches in overall size. When you turn the note over, you see that they printed these notes on paper that had already been used for bills of exchange. Because of the paper shortage caused by the War, they were forced to do this with the printing of these notes. The note comes in an acid free holder for preservation
and display.
