This is an excellent non-excavated cartridge. It is the cartridge for the It is like the one pictured on page #44 of the cartridge book by Herschel Logan. This is the .38 caliber cartridge that was designed for the needlefire rifle. They have a very distinctive look all over. The book explains the way they work like this: the title needle gun came about because of the resemblance of the firing pin to a needle. In discharging the cartridge, the needle penetrated the head of the cartridge to strike the fulminate, which in this case contained in a percussion cap in the head rather than near the base of the bullet. Only a few of the needlefire type of guns were ever manufactured in America" This one is in excellent shape and you can read the Eley maker's mark across the bottom of the cartridge. . It is a fine non-excavated cartridge. You get the actual cartridge that you see pictured.
