Green Overprint! "South Striking Down Union" Confederate $2 Note From 1862
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is an attractive original 1862 issue of the $2.00 bill from the Confederate States of America. In the center of the note it has the image of the personification of the South striking down the Union. On the left hand side it has Judah P. Benjamin from the Confederate Cabinet. Benjamin was from Louisiana and held many important positions in the Confederate Government. At different times he served as attorney general, secretary of war and secretary of state. At the end of the Civil War he fled to England and practiced law. This is the pattern of Confederate note that is listed as T-43 in Criswell's book. Nicely hand signed and numbers. If you notice the note has the green ink "2 TWO" over print that was added to help prevent counterfeiting. It is in well circulated condition that displays attractively as you can see. This note comes in an acid free holder for display and preservation.
