Here is a great looking piece! This is made after the Civil War and displays beautifully. This is the piece referred to as a "saddlecloth". They were designed to go under the soldier's saddle as a lining between the horse and the saddle. This one is made of a black tone leather main body with the golden trim around the edge. It has the leather spine cover. As you can see it displays well from all angles with the original lining nicely intact. On the front of one side you can see the outline where it had an insignia at one time. It appears to be the letters "PG". In my opinion this one will date form Indian War to World War 1 timeframe.
