Original Civil War Era Enfield Pattern Cavalry Saber in Scabbard
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a tough to find original Civil War era sword! It is an original Civil War era cavalry saber. This is the Enfield pattern cavalry saber. Many of this pattern sabers were imported for use by Confederate cavalrymen. The sword has the British broad arrow and "BO" markings at the base of the blade on the spine that lets us know it was issued for their military. Along the base of the blade it has traces of the maker marking that is no longer legible. We can't say that it came here during the Civil War but in could have, and it was made during the time and could possibly have been for either side. This one has a nice full-length blade with a pleasing look all over. The iron hand guard and backstrap are still present and they are nice and tight. The handle of the sword has the original pressed leather grip on each side that is very nice for one of this style as you can see. The sword is accompanied by a complete and original metal scabbard. The scabbard has both mounts, rings, drag and throat intact. On the front of the scabbard it has the "W.S.Y. / 207" stamping and on the inside of the guard it has the "W.S.Y. / 230" stamping. This is a nice looking Civil War era Enfield cavalry saber as you can see.
