Here is a cool early Winchester rifle. This is the version that is known as the Winchester Model 1885 rifle. According to Flayderman's Guide, they made 139,725 and they were produced from 1885 until 1920. This one has the serial number of 8,921 which would have been made in 1887. It has the full-length 22 inch octagonal barrel that fires a .25 caliber rimfire cartridge. It has the size designation stamped clearly at the breech of the barrel. They are made in two styles with one being the High Wall, which means that the frame has sides that conceal the breechblock. Along the middle of the barrel it has the Winchester Firearms Company marking along with the New Haven, Connecticut production location. The action of the gun still works smoothly on the positions. It has the original walnut wood forestock and shoulder stock. The shoulderstock has had the buttplate replaced with a leather piece somewhere along the line. This is a neat 1887 production .25 caliber Winchester High Wall rifle.
