This is an original 1862 dated Civil War $10 note from the state of Virginia. On the left hand side it has the image of President George Washington, who was a Virginian. In the center of the note it has the large image of Governor John Letcher, who served as Governor of the state of Virginia. He was elected in 1859 and served until 1864. On the right hand side it has the oval portrait of an Indian Maiden with a large bow. The note has the pretty orange "C", the Roman number for 100, protector print inks on each side which make this design stand out well. This was added to help prevent counterfeiting of the note. It is correctly hand signed in ink for the Treasurer and public accountant at the bottom of the note. On the top of the note it states "VIRGINIA TREASURY NOTE" and has the printed date of October 15th 1862. It also has the capitol and issuance location of Richmond, Virginia. The note has been professionally graded by the PCGS Company and they have rated it as "APPARENT Fine". This pattern of bill measures approximately 7.75 inches by 3.5 inches in overall size. It comes in the PCGS acid free holder for display and preservation. This is a beautifully designed Civil War dated $100.00 bill from the state of Virginia.
