Authentic Artillery Implements of the Civil War Era
1863 Dated Civil War Artillery Fuse Box From The Philadelphia Navy Yard
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a nicely marked original Civil War naval artillery fuse box. This is the leather pouch that went on the side of the Civil War naval artilleryman. It held his paper time fuzes for firing the cannon shells. The outer flap has a arsenal mark of "NAVY YARD PHILA 1863" with anchors flanking the date. The original closure tab is present on the bottom of the box and it still has the brass finial intact. On the back of the box it has the original leather belt loop solidly intact. The box measures approximately 4-3/4ths inches by 4-1/4 inches by 2-1/2 inches in overall size. This will make a fine addition for a naval or artillery collector either one.
