GOLD Presentation G.A.R. Medal from the 42nd Illinois Infantry

This is a gorgeous medal. This is a presentation Membership medal for the Grand Army of the Republic. It is 1-3/4ths inches by 4-1/2 inches in overall size. This beautiful three-part badge with brass, enamel & gold components and it has the wonderful original silk flag ribbon. The drop is designed with the GAR star design and on the back it is inscribed: "Pres. By Gen. Ed. Hatch 713 and W.R.C. 181 to Henry Schumacher Feb. 22 1905". The records show that Schumacher enlisted in the 42nd Illinois Infantry on September 4th 1861 and mustered out in Atlanta on September 16th 1864. The regiment saw action at several engagements including Corinth, Stone's River, Chickamauga, Chattanooga and through the Atlanta Campaign. This medal is gorgeous and the soldier had a fine history. A printout of his service and that of the 42nd Illinois will accompany the Medal.
