When was the last time you saw one of these revolvers offered? This is the .31 caliber version of the Adams patent revolver that was manufactured by the Massachusetts Arms Company of Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. These guns were manufactured between 1857 in 1861. Upon 1st look, the guns are almost identical to those made in England on the design of the Adams and Kerr patent's. In Flayderman's guide he states that there were 4,500 of these made in this caliber. This one has all matching production numbers of 2,658 on the frame and 3,332 on the cylinder. Most of the time when you encounter these revolvers, they are in very rough shape but not this one. This one is functional, which you seldom encounter because of their complex double action. The mechanics stick sometimes but they still rotate which is more than most of them do. The metal parts of the revolver have a nice dark gray tone. The original loading lever is still present on the right side of the barrel. Along the top of the 3 1/4 inch octagon barrel it has the clear marking that reads "MADE FOR ADAMS REVOLVING ARMS CO. , N.Y. BY MASS.ARMS CO. CHICOPEE FALLS PATENT MAY 3, 1863, JUNE 3 1856, APL 7 1857." On the right-hand side of the frame it has the original safety intact and it is still functional. The grip of the gun has the beautiful hand checkered one piece Walnut grip intact. This is a very fine gun for the price.
