U.S. Naval Academy Identified 1852 Dated Artillery & Small Arms Manual
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is an original Naval tactics manual. This one is dated from 1852 and was printed in Philadelphia by T.K. & P.G. Collins. It is entitled "Excersises in Small Arms and Field Artillery Arranged for the Naval Service." The manual gives instructions on how to use the firearms and cannon and goes into detail in the book's four sections. One thing that makes this one special is that the inside cover as well as in the back of the book has the name of Henry J. Bishop. The inside cover also notes "U.S. Naval Academy Annapolis, Md". A previous owner has some notes that tell the history of Bishop's service. It states that he was born in Connecticut and served through the War an on through 1878. He saw service in the Marine Barracks in Brooklyn and Portsmouth. The book is well worn with what appears to be all of the pages remaining. It measures 6 inches by 9-1/2 inches in overall size. THis is a cool book!
