Here is a great hand written letter by the 13th President of the United States, Millard Fillmore. This one page is written on black edged with mourning paper that measures 6-3/4ths inches by 8-1/4th inches. It was written by Fillmore from Buffalo [New York] on October 20, 1854. The letter was written to a Mr. F. Granger, in which former president Fillmore explains that he has not taken any part in politics recently, and thus "wholly unable to answer your enquiries," though claims that he had seen "several of our friends." Fillmore was born in New York on January 7th 1800. He served one term as President from July 9, 1850 until March 4, 1853. President Fillmore died on March 8th 1874. President Fillmore's wife Abigail died on March 30, 1853. This probably explains the mourning stationary he was using in October 1854. The image is accompanied by a typed transcript of the letter as well as an antique image of Fillmore.
