CDV image of a Civil War Union soldier. The soldiers would buy these from the photographers in the cities or even from traveling photographers that would come to camp. They would purchase them in small quantities to send home to family or friends. This one shows the young Union soldier in his uniform. He is wearing his shell style military coat. On the banister by his side he has the classic kepi style military hat. On the front of the hat it has the "27" to denote the 27th regiment of infantry. On the back of the card it has the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania photographer marking of the firm of W.H. Rhoads. This is a fine looking original
