This is an authentic CDV image of Union Rear Admiral William Branford Shubrick (1790-1874). Shubrick was born in Bull's Island, South Carolina and he studied at Harvard before joining the Navy in 1806. He served during the War of 1812 as well as the Mexican War. He retired in 1861 but was promoted to Rear Admiral on the retiured list on July 16th 1862. He died in Washington, DC on May 27th 1874. It is a nice clear full-view CDV of the admiral in his dress uniform. He has his hand tucked inside his uniform in a Napoleonic pose. He is wearing a fine uniform with his sword belt around his waist. The overall size of a CDV image is approximately 2.5 inches by 4 inches in size. On the bottom of the card it has the Washington studio marking of the Mathew Brady firm on the card stock. It is a fine original CDV that will make a solid addition to any Civil War collection.
