This is an authentic CDV image of Union Rear Admiral John Lee Davis (1825-1889). It is a nice clear waist up view CDV of the admiral in his dress uniform. He has his hat in his sword cradled in his arm and you can see the belt buckle around his waist. Davis was born in Carlisle, Indiana on September 3rd 1825. He entered the Navy on January 9th 1841. He was serving as part of the Gulf Blocking Squadron in 1861. He sank the famous blockade runner Georgiana off of Charleston Harbor. Then he commanded the ironclad Montauk. He continued to service his country after the Civil War and was made a Rear Admiral on October 30th 1885. His final service to his country, was commanding the Asiatic Squadron. This image was never mounted on a cardstock and is priced accordingly. It is a fine original CDV that will make a solid addition to any Civil War collection.
