This is the style with the classic droop wing eagle on the front surrounded by 13 stars. What is special about this button is that it is one of the Confederate manufactured staff officer buttons. There are no pushes at all and the detail is clear. The original brass back is present and the shank is missing in action. This is the version listed as CS25A1 in Albert's button book and CS266A2 in Tice's button book. The verbal history that accompanied this button is that it was found in Spotsylvania, Virginia which was the location of the fierce fighting. This is an attractive displaying and desirable Confederate staff officer button in excavated condition.
