ENGINEER! 6th Plate Tintype Image of a Lieutenant with the Castle Insignia
Click on an image to enlarge

Here is a nice looking Civil War tintype image of a Union soldier. This is the size that is known to collectors as the sixth plate size. It measures about 2.75 inches by 3.25 inches in overall size. The image is done on a tin plate. The image is nice and clearly visible. He has the very young look to his face but he was an officer. It shows the seated soldier from the waist up and he has on his single breasted "frock" style officer coat. You can see the Lieutenant grade shoulder straps on his uniform as well as the dress gauntlets on his hands. What makes this image extra special is that on his officer's hat he has the wreath with the castle insignia inside. This lets us know that he was a member of the Engineer Corps. These images are scarce to fins. The image has the brass mat present as well as the original leatherette style image case. It also has a xerox image of the young man's face blown up to make it easier to see. This is a cool image from the Engineer Corps! '
