This is an original 1861 dated $50.00 note from the Confederate States of America. In the center of the note it has the likeness of the Goddess Juno Moneta guarding the treasury safes. As Juno Moneta ("she who warns"), she protected the finances of the Roman Empire. In the lower left hand corner is the scene of 2 sailors. This one is correctly hand signed and numbered in ink. This is the note listed in Criswell‘s book as T-14. WAlong the bottom edge of the note it has the circular cut outs. This is the mark that lets us know that the note was taken out of Circulation. This process was known as cut-cancellation. This means that you know that this note was actually in circulation during the Civil War. The note is in nice displaying circulated condition as you can see in the scans. The overall size of the note measures 7.25 inches by 3 inches. It comes in an acid free holder for display and preservation.
