Non-Excavated Civil War Era Union Buttons From Massachusetts
Civil War Era New York State Prison Cuff Button by Scovill
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a cool button and is the first one we have been able to offer. This one is the coat size button that was worn by an officer serving with the New York State Prison. The gold gilded face proudly reads "NEW YORK STATE PRISON" with the shield in the center. The button is in excellent non-excavated condition. It has the original back and shank intact. You can still clearly see the "SCOVILL MF'G CO ***" maker's marking. On page 21 of Tice's button book it shows that this backmark will date from 1860. What a great button!
