This is a nice piece that was found a while back. It is an original Civil War cavalry horse martingale. These went on the breast strap on the hose for ornamentation. They are made in the same style as a Civil War belt buckle with the stamped brass face and lead filled back. This is the unmarked style that was so popular with the cavalrymen of the Civil War. When it was recovered the edge had some heavy chipping and loss. We had the piece expertly restored for display purposes and it is priced accordingly. You can see the way it looked when it was recovered in the beofre pictures. The back of the plate has most of the original lead present and you can see the outline of where the iron attachments were at one time. This is a nice excavated cavalry item for the price.
