This is a great looking excavated piece. This is a silvered brass rosette off of a horse bridle strap. These ornamental pieces were widely popular during the Civil War era. This one has the unadorned center with the geometric scallop designs around the edge. The back of the piece is designed with lead fill and the majority of it is still present. It even had the original loop, bent, but still present. It measures 2-1/4th inches across the face. It was recovered decades ago in the Shiloh, Tennessee area.
