Beautiful Variation Pre-Civil War Era Shako Style Hat Insignia With Union Eagle Design
Click on an image to enlarge
This is an excellent original pair of matching shako style hat insignia. We just acquired this from an old collection that was amassed from the Bannerman collection of New York. Bannerman was one of the relic moguls that acquired military surplus from the U.S. and foreign governments. Most of the pans like this are in the form of circular disks but this one has 8 sides. This is the style that at one time were designed to go on the side of a Shako style military hat. They have the beautiful spread wing Union eagle with the upturned wings. Below her she has the large branch of peace. On the back they each have the original brass attachment prongs still present. Each disk measures 1-3/4ths inches across. As you can see the pair displays beautifully in the riker style displays case.
