This is a very beautifully designed original 1863 dated
State of North Carolina $5.00 Note. It has a beautiful view of the ocean going
steam ship in the center of the note. On the left hand side it has the standing
view of maiden with the shield by her side. The center of the shield has the
"5" denomination in the middle. If you notice there is the word wording printed
on the face of the note in red ink. It reads "FUNDABLE IN SIX PERCENT COUPON
BONDS On or After Jan'y 1, 1866 by Act
of December 20,1862." This was an attempt to assure the citizens that there
would be money paid for the note. You have to remember by this time most of the
value of paper currency was in the state or bank issuing the note. It was
issued from Raleigh on January 1st 1863 and is so dated down in the
lower right hand corner. The note is correctly hand signed and numbered in fine
old ink. The piece of currency is in nice circulated condition. The overall
size measures 7-1/4 inches by 2-7/8ths inches. This nice authentic note comes
in an acid free holder for display and preservation.
