This is a great looking original Civil War era CDV image of Union General Hugh Judson Kilpatrick(1836-1881). The face of the card is a waist-up view image of the General in his General uniform. Kilpatrick was one of the most popular generals of the Civil War. He was born near Decker town, New Jersey on January 14, 1836. He went to West Point Military Academy and graduated with the class of 1861. During the battle of Big Bethel in June 1861 he became the 1st Regular officer to be wounded in action. On June 14, 1863 he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General. He thought at the fierce fighting at Gettysburg in 1863 and the next year fought with General Sherman in the Atlanta campaign. He would stay with Sherman through the "March to the Sea" and the Carolina campaign. The overall size of a CDV image is approximately 2.5 inches by 4 inches in size.
