Click on an image to enlarge

This is an original 1862 dated Civil War issued $5.00 note from the state of Mississippi. In the center of the note it has the large "FIVE DOLLARS" printing. On the right hand side of the note it has the likeness of a beautiful sailing ship with the sails full of wind. On the left hand side of the note it has the image of an Indian standing with a bow and spear. It is correctly hand signed and dated May 1st 1862. The note is in nice circulated condition as you can see in the pictures and displays well. This is the version with the brown ink "COTTON PLEDGED" over printing on the face of the note. This overprint also aided in the prevention of counterfeiting of the note. This version with the brown ink is tougher to find than the standard green ink. The overall size of the note measures 7-1/4th inches by 2-3/4ths inches. It comes in an acid free holder for display and preservation.
