Non-Excavated 71st New York Militia Shoulder Belt Plate from about 1900
Click on an image to enlarge

This is a great looking shoulderbelt plate from about 1900. This one would have been worn by a member of the 71st regiment of the New York State Militia. The rolled brass plate has the number "71" made of nickeled brass applied to the face of the plate. The overall size of the plate measures 2-5/8ths inches by 3-5/8ths inches. On the reverse of the plate you can see the original attachment pins and also the back side of the attachment pins for the numbers on the face. It also has the round stud to hold the plate in the center of the belt. This shoulder belt buckle is the version that is illustrated as Plate #790 on page 469 of the Civil War belt Buckle by O'Donnell and Campbell. This is a great piece all the way around. '
