Original and Reproduction Tool and Worm Implements for Civil War Firearms
Unknown Style Iron Worm For Cleaning the Bore of a Military Rifle
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a superb original gun worm for a Civil War era rifle or musket. This is the pattern that goes with the small bore rifles. These were used for the cleaning out of the musket bore. They held a wad of tow (the fiber of flax, hemp or jute). This tow has then used for regular maintenance of bore cleaning. They could also be used for the extracting a bullet if there was a problem with firing or any other reason they needed to pull the bullet out. This particular style is unknown. It is like the one illustrated on page 119 of the gun tool book. This one is in excellent non-excavated condition.
