Post Civil War Scabbard for a .58 Caliber Springfield Bayonet
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is an attractive piece to display with your Civil War era socket bayonet. This is one of the leather scabbards that often show up on post-Civil War used Springfield style bayonets. You often see these referred to as being for cadets that were forced to use the antique guns for their training. This one is full-length with the 1886 stamp on the back that one would assume is the date. It has the white buff leather tab still present at the top and on the other hand has the original steel finial present as well. A good-looking addition if you have a postwar conversion rifle that is still in 58 caliber.
