Non-Excavated Civil War Era Union Buttons From Massachusetts
Fine Non-Excavated 1-Piece Massachusetts State Seal Button MS27
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a beautiful 1 piece coat size Massachusetts uniform button. This one has the Indian standing in the every center of the button face with his bow and arrow in hand. Above that is the arm design and at the bottom is the ribbon that reads "MASSACHUSETTS". The back has the clear backmark of "RICH QUALITY LONDON". The shank is present on the back as you can see. This is the version listed as figure MS27 in Albert's button book and MS110c2 in Tice's button book. I have always thought that this is one of the best looking uniform buttons of the pre-Civil War period. This is a fine non-excavated button for any collector.
