This sword is a knockout! This one would date from the 1840's and Mexican War timeframe. It has the beautiful wide blade that has the single central fuller on each side. You can still see the etching on each side with some of the original frosting from the factory. The blade is full-length at 30-1/4th inches. It has the floral and geometric etching designs with the droop wing style Union eagle on one side with the "E PLURIBUS UNUM" motto in a banner above. This is the national motto that is Latin and translates as "Of Many, One". The crossguard of this sword really stands out! It is made of a massive cast brass piece. On each side it has the spread wing eagle in the center with the large floral swirls on each side of the eagle. It has the ornately carved single piece of bone on the handle which is original to the sword. It has a pleasing milky tone with a couple of ancient small chips. The pommel cap is an other large flowing piece of brass with the extra detailed applied tang cover. The brass parts still retains a fine amount of the original gold gilding as you can see. It has the chain going from the crossguard up to the swirl of the pommel cap. The sword is accompanied by the original all brass scabbard. The scabbard is as equally well crafted with the engraving on the front side. It even has the Union eagle engraved in between the mounts. This sword was crafted using the standard three brass rings coming off of the mounts as well as the stud on the top mount. They used this stud so the sword could be attached using a frog style attachment system if so desired. The scabbard still retains a beautiful amount of the original factory gold gilding. This sword is a keeper by anyone's standards. Don't miss this opportunity!
