Wonderful Very Small Size 19th Pennsylvania Cavalry I.D. Disk FERRIER!

Here is a fantastic piece of history! This is the very small size ID disc measuring 19mm across. This size is a scarce thing and the design is beautiful. On the one side is an image of General George McClellan. On the other side it reads "Andrew Creley, Farrier, CO. F., 19th P.A. Cavy., Phila. Pa". This is one of the first ID Disks that I have encountered that have the occupation of "FARRIER" listed. They were one of the most important skills in the service, especially for the cavalry. The disc has the wear that I love because you know that he wore it and it was important to him. The records show that Creley enlisted with the 19th on 7/23/1863 and was discharged on 5/14/1866. During that time he and the 19th had an impressive and valiant history. The 19th participated at the Battle of Nashville, Byram's Ford, Brices Cross Roads and Okolona. They fought many of those engagements against Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest' cavalry. The unit lost a total of 124 men, 15 enlisted were Killed or mortally wounded. Several of his records accompany the piece. What a fantastic piece of Keystone State history!
