Here is your chance to own a gun that is one of the coolest designs of all the Civil War era weapons. These were patented before the War but this pattern is believed by most to have been made AFTER the war and is priced accordingly. This is the desirable pistol known to collectors as the "LeMat" revolver. Colonel LeMat was the man that held the patent on this unique revolver. It fired nine shots from the cylinder that works as a usual revolver. The standard Civil War version fires .42 caliber bullets but these fire 12mm pinfire cartridges. This one has the original cylinder intact. Under the main barrel it has a huge percussion .63 caliber shotgun barrel for blasting buckshot. That was you last line of defense. The hammer has a pivoting striker that turns down to strike the nipple for the shotgun blast. On the ight hand side it has the it has the spring mounted cartridge casing ejector rod that is likely a replacement. Across the top of the barrel you can see the "COL A. LEMAT BRT 69" marking. This one has the serial number "57" visible on the parts including both barrel, the loading gate door and cylinder. The back of the cylinder has the oval style Belgian style proof marking. These numbers are nice low. The ones in the LeMat book by Val Forgette are in the 3,000's. The action of the gun works crisply on all positions. This one also has the distinctive lanyard circle at the bottom of the grip. The original 2 piece dark wood grips are present on the handle and they have the factory hand checkering. This gun just has a good overall presentation and is a superb piece of firearms history. Most of the definite Civil War production ones you encounter these days are $15,000 to $25,000. This is your chance to own a real one for a fraction of that price.
