Andrew J. Taylor of San Francisco Marked Deringer Pistol From 1854-1858
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a very cool looking and scarce pistol! It is an original single shot Deringer pistol but is one that is much more interesting than the average Derringer pistol. This is the round triggerguard version that fires a single bullet of about .41 caliber. It measures 6 in overall length with the barrel making up 2-3/8ths of those inches. The top of the barrel has the correct "MAND FOR / A.J. TAYLOR & CO. / SAN FRANCO CALA." stamping still clearly visible. This is the extremely desirable mark that lets us know it was sold by the firm owned by Andrew J. Taylor who was a famous retailer based in San Francisco, California. They were in business from 1854 until 1858 only. The action catches on both positions. The stock of the gun has a nice dark tone to the wood. There are some more modern restorations to the wood that are well done. It has the original silver trigger guard and barrel pin escutcheons intact. On the bottom of the grip it has the silver inlay as well as the silver shield design inlay at the wrist of the stock. It isn't often that you get a chance at one of these Taylor marked Deringers. This one is a beauty and is in fine condition.
