This is the pattern known to collectors as the Massachusetts Arms Company Maynard Primed Pocket Revolver. They only made about 2,500 to 3,000 of the jewels and this one displays well. These were made by the firm of Massachusetts Arms Company located in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts and it is so marked along the top of the barrel top strap. They only made them in 1851 to 1860 after they had lost a patent infringement case to Colt. The 3 inch barrel has the original brass front sight intact. The 6 shot cylinder has the nice light gray tone as the rest of the gun. The gun has matching serial numbers of "620". The frame is designed with the door that opens to accept the Maynard patent primer tape. This is how they were able to work around the Colt patent. On the door it has the Maynard marking that reads "MAYNARD'S PATENT SEPT. 22 1845." The action works well on all positions including the cylinder that rotates the Maynard primer. The triggerguard and grip backstrap have a beautiful untouched color to the brass with most of the original silver on the trigger guard. One thing that really makes this gun stand out is that it has beautiful ivory grips. The ivory has a gorgeous look all over. It also has the extra engraving work with a beautiful appearance. This gun is in the original factory wooden case. The case is the form fitted style that would only holds this pattern of gun and its accessories. You can see the custom fitting that cradles the eagle powder flask. One side of the flask has the eagle design and the other side proudly reads "MASSACHUSETTS ARMS COMPANY CHICOPEE FALLS". The original brass bullet mold is present as well. On the side of the mold it reads "SPRINGFIELD ARMS Co." This is a just a great revolver in the original casing with flask and mold. You get the whole set for $3,650.
