This is a beautiful early pattern sword! This sword is from the mid-1700. This style of sword is often referred to as a "Cuttoe" sword and many of this style saw service during the American Revolution. It is old enough to have seen service in the Revolutionary War or possible even French & Indian War. It has the full-length blade that is 21-1/2 inches long with 5 inch false edge and narrow fuller below the spine and is engraved above the hilt with small panels of scrollwork. The original blue and gold finish from the factory is still viable on both sides of the blade. The cross guard of the sword is made of silver and molded overall with florals. What makes this one really stand out is that the pommel cap on the top of the sword is designed with the face of a lion. This is a mark of a very finely made sword. The handle is made of polished horn. The horn has the swirl pattern all over. The sword is missing the scabbard as is so often the case. This is a great looking Revolutionary War "cuttoe" sword with the beautiful blue and gold finished blade.
