When was the last time you saw one of these offer for sale? Probably been a while if ever. This is the leather and steel devise that was worn on the leg of an artilleryman. These were worn by the caisson driver to protect his inside leg from the tongue of the caisson. This bridle leather leg wrap is complete with all straps and steel plate. There are four straps (3/4th of an inch wide) with roller buckles along the leg. A single heel strap on the bottom is riveted in place. This strap is separated but all of the leather is still present. A steel plate (2-3/8ths inches wide x 12 inches long) runs up the leg. All leather is present and in nice shape and all of the stitching is tight and strong. On the side of the leather it has the clear marking from the "WATERVILIET ARSENAL". It also has the inspector marking of "A.R. SMITH" who approved the piece for military use. This is your opportunity to own a very scarce piece of Civil War artillery history!
