Here is a beautiful sword! This is the style that is known to collectors as the eagle pommel officer's saber. They get their nickname because the pommel cap at the end of the grip that holds the sword together is made like the head of an eagle. This one has a large impressive eagle with a determined look. This pattern would have been sold to the well-to-do American market. The hand guard and pommel cap still retain a beautiful amount of the original silver wash with a nice thick attic patina all over. The hand grip is original to the sword and it is made of a high quality piece of bone with a pleasing golden tone to the bone. The blade is full length at 27-1/4th inches. On each side of the blade it has a nice amount of the original factory beautiful blue and gold wash. It gives gorgeous detail to the engraving on each side that depicts floral and patriotic designs. What makes this one special is that it still retains the original leather and brass scabbard. With the wide sweeping curve of the blade most of the time these scabbards have broken and are no longer present. This one is not only present but it is in nice shape. It has the mounts, rings, drag and throat and they still retain some of the original silver wash. The leather is complete and the stitching on the back side of the scabbard is still mostly intact. It isn't often that you see one of these as pretty as this one so don't miss your opportunity to own this beautiful sword.
