This is one that you don’t get a chance at very often. It is the Civil War 2 piece sword belt with the naval officer’s belt buckle. This is a variant of the pattern that is illustrated as figure #1002 in the wonderful buckle book by O’Donnell & Campbell. This is the correct style with the cast bar and tongue portion. The face of the buckle tongue has the droop wing style eagle in the center. She is perched on an anchor and it has the stars around the edge. The buckle still retains a superb amount of the original gold gilding down in the recesses. On each of the pieces you see the faint impression of the design on the back that is from the casting process of the brass pieces. What I special about this buckle is that it is still accompanied by the original black leather belt. The belt displays beautifully as you can see. It has the original brass length adjuster still present. It isn’t often that you can find one of the jewels so don’t miss your chance.
