This is an original trio of tactics manuals from a soldier from Pennsylvania. Each one of the manuals has the soldier's name on the inside of the cover. Each one has the name of "Peter Faust Jr. Capt. Comdg. Co. 179th Pa. Regt. Yorktown Jan 30th A.D. 1863" nicely written in old ink. The records show that Peter Faust Jr. served early in the War as a Private in the 11th Pennsylvania Infantry. He enlisted on September 12th 1862 and mustered out on September 25th 1862. His second service was in the 179th Pennsylvania Infantry. He enlisted as a Captain on November 4th 1862 and mustered out on July 27th 1863. The books are the 1st, 2nd and 3rd volumes of the infantry tactics manuals that were written by Brigadier General Silas Casey. These were printed in New York in 1862 by the firm of D. Van Nostrand, and are so marked on the title pages. The books themselves are in very fine condition for their age. They appear to have all of the pages and pull-out diagrams intact. You get both of the books as well as some information on Faust's service.
