Here is a very cool display piece! It is an original uniform hat that would have been worn by a Confederate veteran. The hat itself was made about 1880 to 1900 but they used original Civil War Georgia buttons for the chinstrap. The buttons are each in beautiful condition. On the face of the button it has the famous great seal of the state of Georgia. It has a wonderful attic color to the brass on the front . The original back and shank are present. It has the desirable backmark of "W.G. MINTZER * PHI”. This pattern of button is listed in Albert’s button book as GA2av and in Tice’s button book it is listed as GA203As1. The hat has the gray wool as well as the black trim. It has some mothing as you can see which gives it some character. The original leather brim is still solidly intact. Inside the hat it has the majority of the leather sweat band as well as the lining. You can still see some of the Baltimore marker's marking on the lining. It is a wonderful veteran's hat from Georgia.
