This is a cool looking gun! It is an original model 1795 flintlock musket. This is the model 1795 that has the 44-3/4ths inch barrel and it is still full-length with the sight intact on the front of the barrel. The musket was made at the famous Springfield arsenal and is so marked very clearly on the lockplate. Also on the lockplate are the Union eagle and the "US”. Behind the hammer it has the vividly clear 1813 production date. On the top of the buttplate it has the production date of 1814 stamped into the metal. The action of the lockplate works catches on both position. When this one left the factory it would've been a flintlock. Later on it was converted to percussion and has a fine appearance. This gives a wonderful display and is about half the price of one that is in the original flintlock configuration. The conversion was done in the cone-in-barrel style alteration. The barrel has the correct inspector marks at the breech along with the eagle head stamp which is just below the large "P” stamp where the gun barrel was approved as good enough for military service. The stock has a gorgeous look with furniture like grain to the walnut. It has all three of the original barrel bands intact with the retainers springs intact just like they should be. One of the original sling swivels are present as you can see. The ramrod in the channel underneath the barrel is an original one that still has the threads remaining. This is a great looking and original War of 1812 weapon that any collector should appreciate in their collection.
