This is a super rare original Civil War Confederate navy button. This is one of the most beautiful of the Civil War designs. In the center of the button it has the sailing ship and across the bottom has the coveted letters of "C.S.N.” which stands for Confederate States Navy. The back of the button has the maker’s mark of E.M. Lewis of Richmond, Virginia. The face has very detail with a beautiful mellow patina. The backmark is clear and the shank is present and accounted for. This is the pattern listed in Albert’s button book as CS68 and in Tice’s button book as CSN270a1. This one is a beautiful non-excavated button that display superbly. There are only a handful of these purely Confederate made non-excavated navy buttons existing so don’t miss you chance to own one.
