Have you ever had a chance to own one of these rarities? This is a fine excavated coat size version of the Confederate Marine’s coat button. This is the 19mm coat button which is the only size this button was produced in. On the face it has the clear block style "M” which denotes the Marine Corps branch of service. This button has the original back intact with the original brass shank. It has the correct Civil War backmark of "HT&B MANCHESTER” which is the mark of the Hammond, turner & Bates Company of Manchester, England. This is the style listed as CS76 in Albert’s button book and CSM200a1 in Tice’s button book. This fine button would have been imported through the blockade to the Confederate soldiers. These Marine versions of the Manchester Confederate buttons are the toughest letter buttons to get. It is in very attractive condition and is a must have for any Civil War Confederate button collection.
