Scarce Cased Set of Paddle Style Engineer Shoulderboards Circa 1880

This is a superb display set. It is an original matching set of dress epaulets from about 1880 or so. This is the style that is designed like a paddle shape. This helps us date them to the latter part of the 1800's. There are 2 things that make them extra special. 1st if that they were designed for an Engineer. We know this because of the silver castle designs on the large part of the top of each. It also the 2 bars on each side to denote the rank of Captain. The 2nd thing is that they are contained inside the original tin container from the retailer. The top of the box as well as on the underside of each epaulet we have the retailer's marking of the New York City firm of Shannon, Miller & Crane. The tin still retains a superb amount of the original factory finish. This is a wonderful original set in all regards.
