This is a beautiful piece! It is the scarce original belt buckle that was worn by a member of the 6th North Carolina Confederate Infantry. This is the pattern that is illustrated as Plate #344 on Page 188 in the revised edition of the Mullinax book on Confederate Belt Buckles & Plates. The face of the belt buckle of the cast brass plate has the bold lettering that reads "6TH INF NC. ST." This version of plate is easily distinguished because there is no period after the "S". These are the only regimentally marked belt buckle worn by a Confederate regiment. The reverse of these buckles utilized applied brass hooks for attachment to the belt. This one still retains one of the original three hooks intact. This one has a gorgeous look with a gorgeous patina.
