This buckle is one of the toughest you will ever encounter from the Civil War. It is the version that is superbly crafted version of Eagle sword belt plate that you hear referred to as a "General's" buckle. They get this nickname because they were only worn by very high-ranking officers. The buckle itself is made of cast brass. The brass has the Union eagle design with the arrows of war in one talon and the branch of peace in the other. Coming from the eagle's beak is the ribbon that reads "E PLURIBUS UNUM" which translates as "Of Many, One". This is our nation's motto. It has the wreath around the eagle and the stars above her. On the back of the buckle it has the medium-size applied tongue. What is special is that this one still has the original very high quality belt. The Beat is constructed of the high quality red leather with the three rows of applied golden material. This one of the biggest belts I have ever encountered. It goes way around my waist and I am a full-figured guy. The General that wore this one had had a few too many cheeseburgers. It has both of the original sword hangers still intact with a great look. This is a great looking high grade officer's belt!
