It is an original Civil War Confederate 2-piece sword belt buckle. This is the style that went with the version known to collectors as the Coin style because of the small flat coin like disk that resembles a coin. These buckles are illustrated on page 38 and 39 of the revised edition of the Confederate buckle book by Mullinax. It has the bold "CS" lettering the center of the tongue. The wreath has the classic blurred detail that these buckles so often display. It shows how the need for buckles was so great that they even passed flaws to get them into the field for use. This piece displays beautifully as you can see but it has not been restored. Almost all of these have been repaired but not this beauty. The history accompanying the buckle is that it was found near Paducah, Kentucky. This buckle came from the award winning collection of Don Phillips. His Confederate Belt Buckle display won numerous awards at the biggest Civil War shows across the country. This is your chance to own a buckle from his "Best of Show" award winning collection. This is a scarce version of original Civil War "Coin" style belt buckle from Kentucky.
